Ohio City Farm Becomes an Example of Four Season Farming With High Tunnel Production

For those reading this, Refugee Response is a Cleveland, OH based organization that provides job training for refugees. One of the projects of the organization is to provide job training in agriculture. To affectively carry out this training, Refugee Response farms around two acres of land in Cleveland, OH selling the produce direct to customers through a CSA program as well as through an on-site Farm Stand. Their farm also sells to area restaurants.

We were asked to do a High Tunnel Hoop House build for Refugee Response this past winter for two additional 20 ft. x 48 ft. Quonset High Tunnel Hoop Houses. That would bring the total number of tunnels for Refugee Response to Five. The goal with these systems are to provide workable space for the job training to continue through the colder months. Season extension structures have also proven to be an important aspect of job training for the organization as these types of growing facilities have become more widespread in the last decade.

The two tunnels include 2" x 2" square steel tube end-Wall Framing, Half Steel / Half Glass personnel doors, full length roll-up sides, end-wall ventilation, and double layer 4 year 6 mil Plastic Sheeting for additional insulation in the winter months and more controlled high temperatures in the winter.
