Innovative Hardening House Put Up at Great Road Farm in New Jersey

In Spring of 2015, the Tunnel Vision Hoops crew had the opportunity to head out east to build a tunnel for a great farm: Great Road Farm. Yes, pun was intended. This gem of a farm is located just north of Princeton University, and is made of over 100 acres of beautiful farm land that has been split up into specialty crop production (regular delicious vegetables and fruits), egg and chicken production, perennial edibles, and more projects than I could truly capture in the space I have available to me in this posting. Needless to say, we are grateful that a High Tunnel Hoop House from Tunnel Vision Hoops LLC was a part of one of the projects they had on their "to-do list".

We knew the farm was a large operation in scope, but to say that a lot was going on when we arrived was an understatement; carpenters were transforming chicken coops into fully livable farmer quarters, the Farm Manager was building movable chicken coops (which were awesome), site grading was occurring for a future parking lot, and seedlings were being started daily in their Greenhouse. Not to mention, a sizable portion of the farm is dedicated to a fully functioning equestrian business that houses horses, provides space for riding and teaching, and even provides a large football field sized facility for indoor riding.

Even though we were just one of the projects taking place we enjoyed immensely the opportunity to be a part of such exciting farm developments. Our objectives at Great Road Farm in New Jersey were two fold:

1) Build a heavy duty 30 ft wide x 96 ft. long Commercial High Tunnel with ease of access and longevity in mind

2) Build a piece of infrastructure to assist with the hardening off of plant starts

I have included pictures in this posting that shows what we built in order to meet those objectives. All in all, we loved New Jersey, and further more, we have only incredible things to say about the Farm Manager and other friendly people we met while working on the farm.
